BETA MU
The Commerce and Economics Fraternity at The George Washington University, not nationally affiliated, successfully petitioned for membership with Alpha Kappa Psi and was installed as the 57th chapter on May 6, 1933. However, in 1974, the chapter returned its charter due to declining membership. On January 27, 2008, the Beta Mu Chapter was reestablished on campus. The inaugural Founding Father Pledge Class consisted of 46 brothers, after which the chapter resumed the original letter sequence, beginning with the Gamma Rho class in Spring 2008. The Spring 2008 Executive Board was led by Casey Pond, who served as the first president of the reinstalled chapter.
Since its reinstallation, the Beta Mu chapter has initiated over 1,300 student members across 116 pledge classes, along with 16 Honorary members and 52 Faculty members. The chapter has also accepted 8 transfer brothers as Affiliated Members. Currently, there are 124 student members in collegiate status.
Among the chapter’s esteemed alumni are Michael B. Enzi ‘64 (U.S. Senator from Wyoming), Henry C. “Ric” Duques ‘67 (business executive, emeritus trustee), and Barton H. Kogan ‘67 (business executive, philanthropist). As well as our honorary chapter alumni Cloyd H. Marvin ‘40 (President, The George Washington University), William M. Martin ‘57 (Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors), and Barry M. Goldwater ‘63 (United States Senator from Arizona).
